Pick your surface
Ice, inline, street and field hockey each use different sticks, skates or balls. Start with the game you play.
Fit, flex and sizing, explained
How to choose a field hockey stick: sizing to your hip, FIH limits on length, weight and bow, carbon content, and why there are no left-handed sticks.
Hockey helmet certification explained: HECC stickers and expiry dates, CSA in Canada, cage and visor rules, how to fit a helmet, and when to replace it.
How hockey skates should fit: why skate size runs smaller than shoe size, width and fit profiles, the pencil test, heat molding, and blade care.
Hockey Gear questions, answered
What size field hockey stick do I need?
Stand the stick upright beside you. The top usually reaches about the hip bone. Defenders sometimes go longer and forwards shorter.

The HECC sticker has an expiration date. After it passes, the helmet is not certified for play in leagues that require HECC.
Read: Hockey Helmet Certification →Should hockey skates be tight?
Snug but not painful. Your heel should stay locked in and your toes should just brush the toe cap when standing.
Read: Hockey Skate Sizing Guide →What hockey stick curve is best for beginners?
A moderate mid curve with a slightly open face is the usual starting point.
Read: Hockey Stick Curves Explained →What flex hockey stick should I use?
Start near half your body weight in pounds and adjust. Lower flex is easier to load for wrist shots; higher flex suits strong slap shots.
Read: Hockey Stick Flex and Length →Can I use ice hockey gear for inline?
Your helmet, gloves and stick work for both. You need inline skates, and many players switch to lighter inline pants.

Every recommendation starts with the player's age, height, weight and level, using the manufacturer's own size charts.
Each review says who the gear suits, who should look elsewhere, and what to know before you buy. No filler, no hedging.
Brands cannot buy a review or a spot on a list. Partner codes save you money; they never decide what we recommend.
Prices are dated, codes are updated across the site at once, and pages are revised when a product or rule changes.
